Sights and sounds of Lagos: LASTMA at work

I guess it will take a while for the exclusivity of the BRT Lane to sink in.

Yay, I think I know this place, or went past it in May.. did it look this good? What does BRT stand for, and LASTMA, wow, the picture is so clear, nice wink
E Etomi: Yeah it looks much better...BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) for some new blue and Red buses in Lagos and LASTMA is the Lagos State Transport Management Authourity...I just googled that. Nigerians love acronyms sha!
Lol, nice one. I'm pals with all the LASTMA guys on my regular routes!
E Etomi: Thats probably the best thing to do.

i know this brt lane

i was stopped there once and the lane hadn't even been completed and there was no sign showing brt exclusivity!

that reminds me of the fact that a lot of signs in lagos are deliberately ambiguously positioned so as to confuse the uninitiated.

that said, governor fashola is doing quite a visible lot in lagos...i mean check out the sexy new roads he's building, for one thing
E Etomi: He sure is making some positive changes.

Interesting scene. It looks like perhaps they are getting a traffic ticket?
E Etomi: Hmm technically....but they will pay a fraction of it right there and then.

That road is not totally for BRT buses,if you want to turn off the major road, you can use that lane...lagos wasnt prepared for BRT buses in terms of road network blueprints,so it cant totally be exclusive.
I was comin from city mall some years back and i had just graduated from lawschool,so i still had law fresh in my memory,i took this lane and these guys stopped me,the funniest thing was that they didnt stop the cars ahead of me,they probably saw i was young and could take advantage of me,we got into an arguement cuz i wasnt gonna let take me for granted, besides, why didnt they stop other vehicles...why me?
i threatened to drive off cuz they were pointless, instantly, one of the lastma guys called the RRS guys(see their van underneath the bridge in the picture-Rapid response squad)that i was gonna run off,the Mobile police guy, lookin like a dare devil came....cockin his rifle as if he was at the war front...and i was shocked...i asked him..."Na because of me wey i be small guy you dey cock rifle....haba!"
he started laughing at the fact that i wasnt intimidated....and on that light note,he pleaded with the lastma guys to let me go...saying.."this guy na sure boy"
but i think i got away with that...not everyone gets away with that in lagos i love lagos!

I am a bold yellow lady that has AWAY written all over me and lastma tried their darndest but I jetted off right as they tried to pull me off to the side.
you really just cant afford to be a muguni- those are the ones that get caught!
