I tried so hard to get this shot sharp. This is the best I could do. Any suggestions for next time?

no real suggestions etomi. Does the 350 do a mirror lock out of the box or do you need to select it through the settings. I don't think there is a spot metering mode on the 350d. This is one reason i am getting annoyed with my 300d. you could change the sensors to pick a particular focus point and this may work. Looks tasty though.
Why don't you set your focus before you start pouring the liquid?

hey etomi

i like the idea smile battled through the same , see my post for 12/09 what i did ...had camera on tripod, used the 70-200 focused on an empty glass , i used a wineglass so i focused on the stem which happens to be centre of it. 2 f-stops from max to get some dof. then set the camera to selftimer, count, and pour liquid at the (hopefully ) right time.. took me 15 shots to get the one i posted (which actually was shot 15..) found that the 70-200 worked better than the 18-55 at close range

Setting your focus point will sort it out smile

It seems focused on the outside of the glass. Try manual focus and set it before you take the shot.

Set up the empty glass and center an object like a straw or a spoon in it then focus on that.

You need to use a tripod for this too, if you didn't for this one.

Set your focus properly, then use bi-directinal lighting...
