photoblog image Bridge over calm waters

Bridge over calm waters

One of the first shots. I know it needs a bit of straightening. Should I have edited it differently?

I think it works quite well as a silhouette.
E Etomi: Thanks Martin

The framing on the right works, the left doesn't!
Try to frame this kind of shot with object as silhouettes on both sides next time. If possible also wait till the sun is setting or rising smile. Oh well...i'm back 2morro. Your not up yet?
E Etomi: Well I wasn't about to wait till the sun was rising or setting lol. I will take this into account next time i decide to go shooting. I went to work early..

What and where is this bridge, Etomi? And what is the river?

So many questions, so little time! smile
E Etomi: Hmm I should know the name right. Its right outside my building in Sweden. Just asked my colleague, the river which is right along my street is called Malaren and the bridge is Vasterbron....I learned something new today. Thanks for asking.

I like it ...
E Etomi: Thanks Shakara
I think you might have achieved this silhouette by draging levels/contrast which has meant loss of detail. I may be wrong, maybe it was just the wrong time of day! The shadows/blacks are too harsh n it takes away from the beauty of the image.
E Etomi: I'll see if thats what I did cos I don't remember. Maybe I'll put it up again this weekend and see what you think.

The editing works fine for me. Did u use a polarizer?
E Etomi: No, just the high pass sharpen on CS2.

You can try different crops, e.g. cut about one half of the water and some sky as well. The shadows at the left of the bridge can be lightened. And the straightening you have mentioned, should be done first before experimenting with cropping.

Nice shot.
E Etomi: Thanks Louis. Will play around with your suggestions.

I think you know it could have been executed a bit differently. Personally, i would have bracketed exposures and shot at a different time of the day. The silhouette works for sunrises and sunsets but not so much for mid-day shots. The lack of detail in the foreground and the framing are also distracting.
