Can we take the train?

I can't emphasise enough how much I don't like flying. But its something that can't be avoided in this great big world. So we flew Aero to Ghana and boy was I terrified.

1) We had to actually take the stairs unto the plane. At least for international flights, I can pretend that I'm just walking into a great big cinema

2) The plane sat 40 ppl max! It was so small

3) The Pilot on the journey back would speed up then suddenly break...like what the hell, could you not do that please????

4) The plane used large propellers and I watched them all night to make sure they didn't stop. Thank God the flight is only 1hr long.

I must say though, that I am quite okay when the plane is flying smoothly. I only get terrified with all the odd sensations during turbulence or when I can hear the engine hummm and then suddenly stop.  Apart from that, I can manage my phobia quite well. Also Aero has the best track record for local flights so that helped. I figured, they go to Ghana everyday, so why would my plane be the one to fall out of the sky? Right?

Whats your phobia?

I feel u on the flying. My phobia is sailing on any kind of water vessel, but atimes like u said when the turbulence is too much, this wandering mind starts remembering all those plane crashes.
Hey Etomi, Aero is not a bad airline. It\'s one of the best in the country. And the dash8-300 is not a small small plane. ACN once flew the twin otters on some local routes. Now, the twin otter is a small plane...and God help u when u hit bumps in the air.

Hey I have shots of this plane!..Skills4ever is right, I took the Aero Dash8-300 from Calabar to the Bebi airstrip near Obudu...it seemed to a relatively new plane and I really enjoyed the trip (mind you - I like flying on smaller planes for the same reasons you don't!). It is much bigger and much more comfortable than some of the smaller planes you would have to get on around East Africa on short trips (try taking one of the little planes that run b'n Dar and Zanzibar, watching the pilot using his mobile phone as he taxis down the runway!)

If we where meant to fly the good Lord would have given us wings smile Me and flying, when I do have to do it.

Me phobia? Do you have all day? tongue

Okay the biggest one (don't laugh) is for flies. God I actually shudder just righting that. Really CANNOT STAND the things, HATE the buzzing sound they make, good help me if a fly touches me, straight to the bathroom i go, I just seem to associate them with dirty places in my head, I really really do not like them.

Also dislike all forms of creepy crawler, but flies takes the crown smile

I'm not scared of flying, I actually quite like it, my mother had a pilot's licence and used to take me when I was a small kid. I hate these long legged flying bugs you get in the autumn here, "Daddy Longleg" ? They get tangled in my hair which really freaks me.
Unusual photo, puts across the apprehention of flying off into the night sky well
I can see how you would be afraid of flying with a plane like that. I flew a short hop flight once from Chicago to Toronto in a plane not much bigger, it was a tad frightening after transfering from a 747. That and the leg room sucks. I think I'll just drive next time.

First thought when I saw this picture was 24. Yep I know, I'm a 24 junkie, but the pic reminds me of the episode where Jack managed to sneak onto a diplomatic plane through the luggage compartment.

Nice pic!!

I am OK with flying. I really hate how cramped the planes are these days. I feel like a sardine in one.

Nice shot!
