This was taken when we went to our hometown fo my step-grand mums burial.  These guys who carry the coffin really do some hard work cos the dance all around with the coffin before the actual burying happens.

Maybe you should have cropped out 4cm's from the right? Im not so fond of all that on the right..

Didn't you feel weird photographing the burial?
E Etomi: Dunno why I didn't, i thought about it but I wanted a bit of the background.

People take pics for everything here and it was actually a joyous occassion.
When next I'm in town we are both going shooting together. I really miss home now.
E Etomi: I'm game! Maybe I can pick up a few tips
Jide can i come too ?
Weddings I like, burials well I am not so sure!
E Etomi: Maybe there'll be some weddings too

I am sorry about your step grand-mum. I hope her life was long and happy.

It's interesting because here the color of mourning is traditionally black. Is white the official color of mourning in Africa? I think the white almost gives me a sense of celebrating the life of the person who has died.
E Etomi: You are right Laurie. In my custom, no one wears black if the person was old and lived a long and fulfilling life with kids and grand kids etc. But in other more tragic situations, there is a mourning period and black is the traditional mourning colour
I like it... It's very colourful for a burial.... I agree with maybe cropping on the right side... It'll make this good picture even better...

Still your number one fan... KMB's getting married so you can work on your skills at her wedding... smile

I like the idea of wearing white for an old person cos you should be celebrating the long life they lived.

Very interesting shot - I also hope she lived a long and happy life.
I like the idea of a celebration of her life. Good photo, but I agree w/ Yanik the open space at right throws off the balance.

Nicely captured. My nan died a couple of years ago and oddly enough it was probably one of the best trips to the village I took even with all the sadness and all.

Pic could be tweaked a bit (boosting colours, adding DOF, etc etc) but nevetheless will fit in well in a nat geographic type mag ;-)
